Sometime last year, I was struck by His Holiness the Dalai Lama's call to action in his talk during the 2009 Peace Summit: We are to become fully compassionate human beings. This led to a conversation of compassion and what it means for us individually and as a family.
Our child-led monthly compassion projects were born out of our Family Retreat in December and we kicked of this month and year with a brand new family tradition. Audrey was deeply affected by the many homeless men and wom we saw on our trip to Paris, and she chose to create care packages and hand deliver them along with her allowance to those in need living in downtown Vicenza. These experiences have opened up a beautiful family dialogue of serving others and how, often, it is easier to give compassionately to strangers than it is to ourselves.
Again here, the Dalai Lama and Center for Peace and Education was speaking to an audience that had come together to "be the village", to take responsibility for what he calls "educating the hearts of our children".
We are all looking forward to what Benjamin dreams up for February's compassion project, we promise to keep you posted!
Wishing you loads of love and compassion!
